Record the full programme name, organiser, assessment object and edition. Product, concept, communication and regional programmes under one brand may use different systems, calendars and charges.
Product design requires an assessable product
Red Dot Product Design 2027 accepts industrially manufactured products within its launch window. Entries identify the product, manufacturer and designer and provide the product as instructed. Establish the version, status and launch evidence before preparing presentation materials.
Renaming a product does not demonstrate redesign. The organiser distinguishes previously entered and redesigned products. Record the actual improvements, version and evidence so that the entry matches the product.
Concept design has its own development definitions
Red Dot Design Concept 2027 separates Professional and Next Gen projects. Professional covers Concept and Ready For Market; Next Gen accepts concept-stage work with its own team or designer conditions.
Being unlaunched does not automatically make a project a student entry. Having a student contributor does not automatically make the whole work eligible for Next Gen. Check team composition, completion and the edition’s definition of market delivery.
Identify communication and packaging separately
Red Dot Brands & Communication Design concerns brand and communication work. It is independent of Red Dot Product Design and Design Concept. A shared brand does not make fees, deadlines and materials interchangeable.
Pentawards is a packaging-design competition. Food, drink and beauty packaging can be searched by category, but the assessment object remains packaging design. Explain structure, visuals and use rather than submitting only product promotion for the contents.
Categories and additional assessments are not new programmes
Within Red Dot Product Design, Innovative Design and Sustainable Design can be additional registrations. The organiser requires separate registration confirmation while the physical product need only be sent once. These should not be recorded as unrelated awards.
Keep three levels distinct: the independent programme establishes the rules; the route or project type establishes applicable eligibility; and the category establishes the evidence focus. Sustainability, student status and concept stage are not product industries.
Organise materials around the assessment object
Product entries show function and use; concept entries explain the problem, solution and development stage; communication entries show the work and its application; packaging entries explain the packaging. Shared photographs may be reused, but text, evidence and specifications need programme-specific review.

Preparation checklist
| Comparison | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Independent programme | Treating product, communication and concept as one programme |
| Region and organiser | Combining the Japanese and US GOOD DESIGN programmes |
| Development stage | Applying marketed-product rules to concepts or the reverse |
| Route or package | Adding alternative identity, quantity or benefit prices together |
| Mark and edition | Substituting recipient badges, parent brands or other years |
A practical question
Does selecting a sector select the official category?
No. Site classifications aid search. Final categories and codes come from the official entry system. Keep the selection rationale, applicable conditions and unresolved questions in one record.
Review the directory or compare entry options.
